It's CHRIIIIIIIIIISTMAS!

I hope you had a magical Christmas with all those you love, and were spoilt rotten! Working in retail meant my Christmas run-up was hectic to say the least, I didn't get any crafting or baking done at all which is most unlike me! I will just have to make time for more things like that though-out 2017. I love to hibernate after Christmas day and only leave my house for dog walking, I'm sure many of you can identify with that - very sensible.

I would like to thank you for visiting my little blog this year and I hope to be a lot more productive on here in 2017! Hope you continue to enjoy the rest of your festive season.

Joys Of Christmas

I hope you and all those you love had a wonderful Christmas time! We had far too many presents, too much food and too much TV time...can't wait to do it all again next year! Christmas day itself passed in a flash after I was done 'doing a Jamie' on the dinner - the Norfolk Black turkey didn't disappoint and thankfully the roast potatoes were tasty - I think as long as the potatoes are crispy, you've got nothing to worry about! I did manage to get all my wrapping done in time (who's silly idea was it to stamp my own wrapping paper?) and I used the monochrome Christmas inspiration I had coveted on Pinterest, which wouldn't suit my more traditional home but was perfectly suited to my presents!

Candles and fairy lights reigned supreme, and I did manage to sit down for the artistic genius that is Muppet Christmas Carol - it's not official Christmas without it! Mia (AKA - Santa Paws!) was super spoilt for her first Christmas as part of this mad family in the UK, she keeps gathering all her new toys into a pile like she can't believe they all belong to her! She also coped really well with the influx of visitors, noise and children, I couldn't have asked for anything more! Hope yours went off with a bang too, now we must face the confusion of the days until New Year - if in doubt, check the TV Guide!

Thanks for reading, hope you have a super start to 2016!

Beginning of December

Welcome December! The month when Michael Buble comes out of hibernation to croon Crimbo tunes, novelty knitwear is dusted off with pride, and port and mince pies are part of your five-a-day, hurray! And of course if you happen to work in retail, your sanity is put through its paces from noon until night - it can only make you a stronger, better person right? RIGHT??? Ok I'm calm.

Outside of work, things are looking rather beautifully festive already! The holly does actually have some rich red berries this year, could "snowmageddon" be on the horizon after all? Mia has been loving the bracing walks, nearly being blown off her feet with the windy weather, but she relishes the fresh air! She has been practicing her climbing after the squirrels, making it half way up trees sometimes, they need to climb faster! But luckily for me, she also loves coming home and snuggling in front of the fire, like anyone sensible, wish I could do that more too!

There have been some late night Christmas crafting sessions in the shepherds hut (rock and roll I know!) as I attempt to get all the cards made and wrapping paper stamped, wrapping the presents themselves is a very different task and I will need to start that soon too, or I'll end up a flustered ball of sellotape with gift tags stuck in my hair, weeping under the tree...

To get in the festive spirit I've been reading my collection of Charles Dickens Christmas Tales which I received last year, I've been very much looking forward to settling down with it and a mug of something warm, highly recommend it as a present for a bookish loved one.

Have you got your decorations up already? Presents done and dusted? Or are you choosing the BAH, HUMBUG approach this season, I can see the appeal of all these!

Christmas Memories

Just as we we're getting used to the idea, Christmas has indeed flown by for another year! I had my close family over for the day, and I was in charge of all the cooking - glad to say it all went well, a good batch of mince pies and roast potatoes, they're the important bits! We all went present-mad again (swathes of wrapping paper within minutes!) and it was just a very festive, cosy and loveable day. Just thought I'd post a few details of my home this Christmas, I did try and get it all looking jolly!

I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year. I will live in the Past, the Present, and the Future. The Spirits of all Three shall strive within me. I will not shut out the lessons that they teach!”
― Charles DickensA Christmas Carol

And after a gorgeously lazy Boxing Day that was filled with tasty leftovers and festive telly, we are now in those blessed awkward days where no-one knows quite what day of the week it is, or when to put the bins out again...better just keep it lazy! No snow to be seen here, it's blue skies and sun over Hampshire, I think I need a good walk today!

Hope you had a wonderful time, bring on the New Year!

Wishing You a Merry Christmas!

Just a quick post to wish you&yours a very Merry Christmas and a peaceful New Year!

These were my efforts at handmade Christmas cards this year, was pretty pleased with how they turned out but next year remind me to start them in October!

Hope you have a wonderful festive time!

(A few late night production shots, I did have a lot of fun experimenting!)

London Christmas Shopping

I always try and take a trip to see the Christmas window displays in London, and after our afternoon tea at The Ritz a chance to walk off some of the treats was greatly welcomed! We only had to walk a few minutes to find ourselves outside the sparkling windows of dear Fortnum and Mason which had chosen a winter wonderland party theme. There was piles of tasty food and sweets with little robins perched amongst the displays, glimmering silverware and of course, a selection of their famous hampers, I couldn't wait to get inside and fill a basket with tea&biscuits (actually this was the first time I made it to all floors in the store!)

There were silver Christmas trees suspended down the spiral staircases, and tasteful festive tunes were mixing with the excited chatter from the shoppers buzzing around, however the Christmas shop on the top floor and was actually the quietest room of all! I think like my past visits, some never make it past the ground floor and all its goodies!

With bags rattling full of tea tins we headed on, through the perfectly traditional Piccadilly Arcade which was looking extremely festive with all the little shop windows bursting with very expensive leather, jewellery and watches - well, it's always nice to look! I have always loved Arcades and I wish they were more frequent on our high streets! We kept walking through Regent Street (the amazing Robin window display was in Anthropologie) and finally found ourselves at our dream destination, Liberty

I am always happy to wander around the beautiful halls of Liberty, I spot different Arts&Crafts features every time but my favourites are the animals that perch on the bannisters, such lovely details you can't find in any other shop! There was a stunning ship suspended from the ceiling with its variety of Liberty pattern fabric for the sails, surrounded by glistening gold Liberty coins.

Liberty is so iconic for good reason, I can't think of another British design house that brings so much joy and colour into peoples lives! Customers range from young to old, tourists to locals, the aspirational and the celebrity, it was very busy indeed! I highly recommend the programme Channel 4 have been making there, it gives you a great insight into the heart and soul of the company as they evolve. I will always have a place in my heart for the classic fabrics but this more recent sunflowers pattern is a true stunner, I adore every colour combination and must think of a project to use them in at home! The cherry blossom one is also a favourite, I bought a Liberty edition Barbour jacket which is lined in the blue, I love it!

I wasn't actually impressed with the Regent Street lights as they were sponsored by Night At The Museum 3 and were rather tacky with images of the characters, must try harder! But good old Carnaby Street came up trumps with some much more striking displays, the huge headphone guys were all the way down the street, with smaller snowflakes and lightbulbs down the smaller alleys, I had run out of funds by this point so it was time to hop in a taxi and retreat home until next time!

This trip got me feeling very festive indeed, are there any landmarks you always have to visit this time of year?
