A Sprinkle Of Snow

We only had a small sprinkling of the white stuff over my way, but it was enough to give the garden a much needed facelift after the endless rain ruining the lawn and turning the Shepherds Hut into a houseboat! Mia was less than impressed at the snow flurry and refused to saunter outside, so my "Mia's First UK Snow Day" video attempt was in vain! I love the Brit's obsessed with weather, I'm the first to warn others of black ice (bloody death trap!!!) or other such dramatics, I just can't help myself! Whereever I went this week, the topic on everyones lips remained 'OOOOH ISN'T IT COLD!" which I was more than happy to chime in with, I just wish I hadn't of misplaced my waterproof gloves, de-icing the car was most painful without them! (Have I mentioned how cold it was???) Meanwhile the rest of the week comprised of clearing out more clutter, long dog walks with Mia making lots of new friends, and trying to ease myself into some healthier eating as the Christmas food stock has nearly diminished - sad times!

Wishing you a wonderful weekend! Thanks for popping by,

Katie

First Snow Day of 2015

Hello there! Sorry it's been a little quiet over here, I've been under the weather and have just been taking everything rather slowly, oh how I can't wait for Spring! But last week, Hampshire finally got a taste of the white stuff as we woke up to our first snow in over two years! As soon as I woke up and saw that particularly different colour of light shimmering through the blinds I knew what awaiting us! My garden was looking quite wintery indeed, only the birds had been hopping over it (Mollie doesn't like snow on her paws at her age!)

I had work that day so I had to be quick with the snaps, but I thought the Shepherds Hut was wearing it's first covering of snow very nicely! I knew it would suit the wintery look, but last year was too mild to find out. It's always so lovely and quiet after the snow fall isn't it? It did help that all of the neighbours children had been bundled off to school already, I remember how cruel that felt, sent to school instead of being allowed a snow day! I crunched around the garden, taking time to notice the little wintery details of the snow settled on branches, leaves and statues, it did make the soggy wintery garden look a lot more photogenic!

As you can see, I was very excited to see it! It had sadly all melted by the time I'd returned home, so it was well worth getting up early to wander and enjoy it. How is it looking where you live? Any signs of spring yet?

Hope you have a great weekend!

January (Here Comes The Snow!)

"time is life you know

all its footsteps to and fro
- in January snow

Peter S. Quinn

January arrived with quite a mellow, lazy air this year. Garden wise, it marks the point where things can only get better, with the ground not even frozen it seemed Spring was only around the corner....until the snow hit of course! We should expect it this time of year, but as all UK dwellers know, we're never prepared and instead burrow ourselves inside to watch 24/7 weather and news forecasts (well, after a brisk turn with our brand new snow shovels!)

Earlier in the month, I enjoyed some indoor blooms (paperwhites from ebay) and had a long-overdue reunion with Mr Bridge, who we introduced to the joys of Tunbridge Wells (my weekend haunt!). They have a great little museum there, with plenty of taxidermy - always a good feature for us! The little dog is a famed attraction, a very regal little chap!

Mollie no longer has the puppy-like enthusiasm for the snow. She used to burrow her way through like a snowplough, trying to eat as much as possible! Now she tiptoes about giving me a pleading look to get back indoors pronto, bless.

I'm also very much enjoying sitting at my desk with a sketchbook again, it's been a few years! I am gathering my ideas together for my stained glass course, I'm hoping to push my own creative skills as I really fancy a challenge!

Wishing you a great week!

First snow of 2012

I was awake bright and early this morning (mostly because due to ANOTHER cold I couldn't sleep properly!) on the plus side, I got to see the snow before my barmy dog went out and kicked it up in excitement! The birds were out in force, but our little robin chases away any that dare come near his mealworms - grumpy little fellow! Meanwhile in the garden...

We then headed over Rowhills for our usual stroll with Mollie, was quite the winter wonderland but the squirrels kept sending snow all over our heads as they ran about in the tree tops, we got home absolutely soaked!!

Some brilliantly clear badger tracks (mixed with Mollies!) We saw someone over the woods with a torch about midnight last night, I wondered if the ranger was out putting jumpers on the badgers and foxes? I think it's a plausable explanation... :) The one on the far right looks like a bears paw doesn't it?? - we can dream!

Let's see how long it lasts for this time - as i have two driving lessons booked this week i'd quite like there to be none left by Wednesday please!!

Hope you're all enjoying your snow sunday!
